New Zealand Reduces Visitor Visa Fees for Pacific Nationals
From 1 June 2026, New Zealand has temporarily reduced visitor visa fees for eligible Pacific nationals, making travel more affordable and strengthening ties with Pacific communities.
For a 12-month trial period, the total cost of a visitor visa has been reduced from NZD $216 to NZD $161, including the standard immigration levy. The reduced fee applies only to individuals applying from outside New Zealand.
Eligible visitors from 13 Pacific nations, including Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and American Samoa, can benefit from the reduced fee.
The change does not apply to Parent Boost Visitor Visas or Group Visitor Visas.
The initiative reflects New Zealand’s commitment to supporting its Pacific neighbours by making travel more accessible while maintaining sustainable immigration settings. The 12-month trial will help assess the impact on visitor numbers, demand, costs, and immigration operations before any long-term decisions are made.
This announcement builds on recent improvements to Pacific travel settings, including longer default visa durations and the ongoing trial of a visa-free pathway for eligible Pacific travellers arriving from Australia.
Citizens of the Cook Islands, Niue, and Tokelau remain New Zealand citizens and do not require visas to travel to New Zealand.
