INZ Announces New Seasonal Visa Routes for 2026

From 8 December 2025, Immigration New Zealand will introduce two new seasonal visa options for people seeking temporary work in genuine seasonal roles: the Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV) and the Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV).

Why the changes?

These new visa routes aim to make it easier for certified NZ employers to fill genuine seasonal roles while maintaining robust safeguards to prevent misuse. Many of the standard AEWV conditions remain in place; any changes to a worker’s job will still require a formal Job Change application.

1. Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV)

The GWSV is designed for applicants with strong experience in seasonal work who want the option to return to New Zealand regularly for part-year employment.

Key points for applicants:

  • Visas can be granted for up to three years, offering greater stability for returning seasonal workers.

  • Applicants must show three seasons of relevant experience within the last six years.

  • Holders must spend at least three months outside New Zealand each year, reflecting the seasonal nature of the role.

  • Health and character checks required.

  • A formal job offer from an accredited employer is necessary, and any later job changes will require INZ approval.

2. Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV)

The PSV is suited to applicants looking for shorter seasonal roles during New Zealand’s busiest work periods.

Key points for applicants:

  • Visas can last up to seven months, depending on the role.

  • Applicants need one season of relevant experience within the last three years.

  • If employment lasts longer than three months, applicants must hold full health insurance for the entire stay.

  • A job offer from an accredited employer is needed before applying.

These new visa routes open doors for genuine seasonal work opportunities in New Zealand starting December 2025.
