Things To Do In New Zealand: Wellington Cable Car
What: Wellington Cable Car
Where: Wellington Central, North Island, NZ
The Wellington Cable Car is a must do in New Zealand's capital. Founded in 1889, with the first operation starting in 1902, Wellington's Cable Car has a rich history of providing tourists and locals with what is described as the best views in the city.
Since its first operation the Cable Car has seen great improvements, now transporting guests between five separate stations. The journey is 612 metres long, travelling through three tunnels and over three bridges. At the Cable Car's peak station, visitors will find themselves 120 metres above sea level with spectacular views of the city below and the hills beyond.
Although the Cable Car welcomes 1.17 million visitors a year, the 'Bark and Ride' scheme now allows dogs to ride for free so you and your furry friend can see Wellington's best views together.
