Job Overview:

Although over 8,000 people work as plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers in New Zealand, there are not enough to meet demand. As a result, plumbers, drainlayers and roof plumbers appear on Immigration New Zealand’s construction and infrastructure skill shortage list.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, sanitation, and stormwater systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

  • Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and compliance documentation to ensure all work meets New Zealand building codes and standards.

  • Install and service hot water systems, including electric, gas, and solar units.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing faults, recommending effective solutions and completing repairs to a high standard.

  • Fit and connect pipes, fixtures, valves, pumps, and appliances, ensuring correct alignment, sealing, and pressure testing.

  • Respond to urgent call-outs where required, ensuring prompt and professional service in time-critical situations.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Commercial, Residential and Industrial minimum UK NVQ Level 2 Plumbing qualification required.

  • Minimum 4+ year’s residential/commercial experience.

  • Gas fitting experience an advantage but not essential.

  • Must be registered with Plumbers Gasfitting and Drainlayers Board. We can source supervisors for your license if not already registered.
