AEWV Updates: New Form for Green List Roles & Wage Threshold Adjustments

From 7 July 2025, Immigration New Zealand is making changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) application form — specifically for applicants in Green List occupations and roles that require occupational registration.

These updates are part of a broader effort to simplify processes, ensure clarity, and keep visa settings aligned with job market conditions.

Changes to the AEWV Application Form

To make the application process smoother and more adaptable:

  • Occupation-specific questions are being replaced with generalised questions that apply across roles.

  • Green List requirements for each occupation will now be displayed directly within the form — helping applicants clearly understand what’s required.

  • The updated structure allows for faster, more accurate updates to reflect any future changes to the Green List.

These changes will only affect those applying for Green List roles or roles that require registration.

Green List Roles

Green List occupations represent jobs in high demand in New Zealand — and meeting the specific criteria can provide faster or more direct visa pathways.

Wage Threshold Changes from 18 August 2025

To reflect the updated median wage of NZ$33.56/hour (as of June 2024), AEWV wage thresholds are also being adjusted:

  • Twice the median wage:
If you earn NZ$67.12/hour or more, you may be exempt from the labour market test and minimum skills requirements.

  • 1.5 times the median wage:
If you earn NZ$50.34/hour or more, you may be eligible for the maximum stay of 5 years on an AEWV.

These adjustments help protect local wages, keep the system fair, and ensure AEWV settings remain aligned with economic realities.

Why This Matters

Together, these changes aim to:

  • Simplify the AEWV process for applicants and employers

  • Improve clarity around Green List criteria

  • Ensure that visa conditions reflect the evolving labour market

  • Maintain a balance between supporting employers and protecting New Zealand workers
