Vertical Horizonz opens state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence

If you’re considering a fresh start in a vibrant, fast-growing country, there’s never been a better time to move to New Zealand. In response to Auckland’s booming demand for skilled workers, Vertical Horizonz has recently opened its state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence in Papakura – a 4,000 square-metre facility dedicated to providing world leading training for access trades.

This impressive new centre stands as one of the largest of its kind in the country, offering specialist programs for scaffolding, roofing, rope access, and rigging.

Auckland’s workforce is on track to hit one million by 2028, and the city is rapidly expanding with new infrastructure and housing projects. Yet, a significant skills shortage across construction and related industries means endless opportunities await those ready to step up. By joining New Zealand’s dynamic workforce, you won't just be filling a gap – you’ll be building a future.

Vertical Horizonz CEO, Ben Johnstone, emphasises the organisation’s mission: "We are committed to breaking down barriers and making learning an exciting and fulfilling experience. Our new centre in Papakura offers learners an environment that’s designed to inspire success."

Over the past few years, demand for skilled training has surged, and Vertical Horizonz has grown from 35,000 learners in 2020 to 55,000 in 2024. Marcus Bathan, Chief Operations Officer, credits this growth to the country's consistent drive for excellence and its strong industry partnerships. "We have designed every part of this facility with the learner in mind – from high-tech digital classrooms to specialised training zones, everything here is built to meet the highest standards."

In Auckland alone, over 11,000 learners benefited from Vertical Horizonz's face-to-face training last year. With 72% of construction businesses citing skills shortages as their biggest challenge, the Centre of Excellence stands ready to supply the qualified workforce the country urgently needs.

New Zealand isn’t just offering you a job – it's offering you a chance to be part of something bigger. With the latest universal design learning principles incorporated into training spaces, everyone – no matter their background or learning style – can thrive here. The centre boasts seven modern classrooms, dedicated confined space and elevated work platform training areas, and a digital classroom rich with interactive technology.
