Job Overview
The main purpose of the Nurse Coordinator is to work collaboratively alongside the Nurse Manager and clinically alongside the nursing team supporting the achievement of nursing services and medical centre quality objectives. The non-clinical portion includes Accreditation preparation, service improvement and implementing change.
This includes:
Coordination (rosters) of staff allocation on all shifts/sites with the Nurse Manager & Roster-Lead Senior Nurse.
Day-to-day coordination of the nursing team and patient flow,
Providing cover where and when required
Supervise other nurses with on-the-spot monitoring of clinical care, proactive problem solving and escalating patient safety concerns
Taking accountability for resources and equipment used by the team
Implement changes in procedures resulting from patient safety and/or feedback and standard achievement quality improvements
Supporting the Nurse Manager in implementing new models of care, improving healthcare access, patient experience, health outcomes that meet the health and wellness aspirations of the practice population.
Nurse co-ordinators (collectively as a group) act as 2IC to NM if away.
You must also be aware of:
Undertake an accurate and comprehensive nursing assessment, implement and manage care and evaluate effectiveness according to current best practice guidelines
2Demonstrate competence and application of relevant clinical skills
3Prioritise health problems, undertake triage in a safe and competent way and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
Use and promote the available decision support tools such as clinical pathways and guidelines e.g. Health Pathways
Uses and promotes standing orders to level of competency
Actively delivers and promotes health education and detection or prevention of disease
Documentation standards met, and confidentiality maintained
Evaluation and adjustment of care as necessary in partnership with the patient
Working to enhance patients' understanding of their health issues, maintain wellness, and improve self-management of long -erm conditions
Understands the implications of health literacy and regularly confirms with patients or whanau their understanding of proposed health treatments and care given
Liaising with general practitioners, pharmacy, ambulance, laboratory and other health professionals to co-ordinate care and ensure that patients' health needs are met
Assisting patients and their families/whanau to make informed decisions by using expert communication skills, including shared decision making
Understanding, promoting and meeting the cultural, spiritual and wellness needs of patients
Understands the treaty of Waitangi and its relevance to the health of Maori in New Zealand/Aotearoa
Charges as per centre process for nursing services provided
Fully confident providing care under complex Standing Orders, and able to coach others to expand scope
Researches and supports the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines

Applicant Requirements
Minimum of 4 years of experience.
Registered Nurse with Nursing Council New Zealand or in the process of registering
Evidence of current professional development
Clinically and culturally proficient in delivering nursing care
Proven ability to make sound clinical decisions
Has "can do" positive attitude to problem solving
