CASE STUDY: TIM GRAYSON

CARPENTER & JOINER
WORK TO RESIDENCY VISA

When and why did you start to consider New Zealand?

I started to consider moving to New Zealand at the start of 2015 knowing from the research I had looked into the I would have a better quality of life.

What prompted you to find out more and what next steps did you take?

It all started to get serious for me on a freezing cold building site in January in the north of England reading a article in the paper. I spoke to Borey and first met at a This is New Zealand Seminar in Manchester to find out more information on emigrating to the other side of the world. There was plenty of information available and all my questions were answered it was a very useful event.

How did Migration Associates and New Zealand Skills in Demand help you?

Migration Associates were so helpful and useful towards my transition to New Zealand with banking, job interview and any other information I required. Both Borey and Guy gave me so much invaluable advice the most important part for me was life to work balance.

As a carpenter it was no problem finding work Guy set up one interview for me and I was sorted. Migration Associates made every step straight forward and clear on what I needed to do they where a pleasure to work with.

Tell us about the day you moved to New Zealand

The day I set off I was a little nervous because I was on my own but I was very motivated and highly organised. My brother and his wife dropped me off at Manchester/Bradford airport and from there to Dublin then Dubai, Sydney and 42 hours later I was in Christchurch. To this day I can’t work out the time-frames but I got here and Greg picked me up and dropped me at my accommodation which was great.

Now you’re in New Zealand, how is it?

Now I've been here for four and a half years I have residency which Migration Associates helped me again and life is so much better than living in the UK. I absolutely love it here in Christchurch the snowboarding/mountain biking/kayaking and tramping is all pretty much on my doorstep and Kiwis are awesome people to work and socialise with.

Any advice you’d give to anyone else who’s considering the journey?

My advice to anyone considering emigrating to New Zealand or Australia is choose where you want to live I.e. Christchurch is perfect for me some of my friends like Nelson more just because of the social side of your life and give Migration Associates a call the will help every step of the way.
